These days, the pressures of modern life and modern technology can distract you from your sex life. From sun-up to sun-down, we are distracted by the twittering of social media and email updates. It’s no wonder so many couples are making the switch to tech-free dates and holidays; to get a little closer without those disruptive buzzes and beeps.
A Technological World
It’s true that we are
spending more and more time glued to our screens, but how exactly
is it impacting our relationships? These days, long hours of work
eat into our private lives, as technology makes it easier to work
remotely. And with constant access to social media, it seems that
couples may be ditching each other in favour for some phone time.
A survey of 2,000 adults revealed that 41% of people are less
likely to instigate sex if their partner is on their phone in bed,
with the majority even admitting that they used their phones
during sex![1] It’s clear then that for many people, technology is
having a negative effect on their sex life.
A romantic holiday can be a great way of rekindling the passion between you and your partner. But even away from home, it seems technology is having an impact on relationships. 65% of respondents said they post on social media up to three times a day when on holiday with their partner, with 42% admitting that they share special holiday moments on social media rather than with their partners.[2]
Just in the door…
If ditching your smart
phone for a whole holiday sounds daunting, why not start small?
Consider that first five minutes when you come in the door after
work. Before heading straight into TV mode, how about a quick five
minute cuddle on the couch with ‘no screens attached’. You’ve
already set the tone for the perfect intimate evening.
Dinner for Two ONLY
How many times a day do
you find yourself ogling over pictures of other people’s lunch?
While it’s great that the internet has turned us all into amateur
chefs, spending hours cooking a superb meal for two and
immediately showing it to the world can sometimes take away from
the romantic gesture. Next time it’s date night, why not set the
phones aside and focus on the person in front of you. After all
the work you’ve put in, why not savour every moment of their
reaction?
The Right Light
Glaring screens ruining the
atmosphere during foreplay? One way to get your night off to a
thrilling start is to dim the lights and give your partner an
intimate massage. (This is more romantic than 20 minutes of online
gaming!) Create the perfect atmosphere by putting your phones
away, lighting some candles, and playing some soft music to set
the mood.[3] For a smooth transition from body massage to oral
sex, try out massage oils and lubes into each other to really get
your hearts racing and set the tone for an explosive night. Before
you know it, your sex life will be hitting a whole new level!
The Great Outdoors
What better way to ditch
the TV, computer and phones all at once than by heading out into
the great outdoors? From long romantic forest walks to sun-kissed
swims on the beach, when it’s just the two of you, the world is
yours! There are hundreds of hideaway escapes in the world,
perfect for couples who need to get away from the distraction of
city-life and work. You might find you’ll be low on signal, but
your sex drive will be through the roof!
If you’re daunted by the idea of going tech-free, you’re not alone. Technology is a huge part of modern life, but when it gets in the way of your sex life it can become a nuisance. Why not try ditching the tech for one evening each week, and see how it can relight the fire in the bedroom?
